Description
Complete kit for BMW E36 differential medium case (188 mm). Fits all models but the 318ti.
The BMW E36 often suffers from old, worn out differential bushings which allow too much play and even sometimes loose parts. The OEM bushings were designed to absorb a lot of noise and vibrations from the road and the drivetrain.
Upgrading to polyurethane for your differential not only fixes these issues, you will experience more power being delivered directly to the pavement and less absorbed by the rear end assembly. They still absorb a vast majority of NVH from the road and the drivetrain, the feel is OEM+.
Our bushings are made of TPU 95A, compared to OEM rubber they will last a lifetime. This is why they are backed with our lifetime warranty.
“But won’t 95A be too hard for my street car?”:
While this is a question of taste, we found that our initial 80A prototypes were not more comfortable or quieter than our 95A. On suspension components, there is little to no difference. The difference is much more noticeable on engine and transmission components.
This kit includes :
- Replacement polyurethane bushings for front and rear bushings on the diff.
- Aluminum sleeves
- Extended M12 10.9 grade bolts for rear diff bushings
- Choice of M12 (OEM) or M14 10.9 grade bolt for front diff bushing (upgrade to M14 requires tapping the diff. to M14x2.0)
- Large retaining washers
These kits have been designed with only one goal in mind : Improve original parts without compromising anything. We research and test on track and on the street until we hit breaking point, and we improve. This is why we include with our kits the appropriate hardware to make it work properly.
“Why should I upgrade to a larger M14 bolt front bolt?”
One very common upgrade for the E36, especially when making more power is to upgrade the differential front bolt from M12 10.9 to M14 10.9. From factory, the original single front diff mount is not enough and should’ve been two mounts or a M14 bolt like E46 M3. The simple solution is to drill the threaded M12 hole in the diff to 12 mm and tap to M14x2.0 to fit our bolt. You can find a 12 mm drill bit and M14x2.0 tap on amazon for cheap.
We do not currently include polyurethane grease with our kits, but will eventually. You need to apply polyurethane special grease or “Marine Grease” to any bushing surface that is in contact with metal, otherwise you will hear squeaking as you drive around. We recommend buying the “Formula 5 Prelube – 8oz. Tub Polyurethane Bushing Grease” from Energy Suspension, it is cheap and will last for all your projects.
